Word Of Mouth and the Music Industry

Academics have published a study that illustrates a strong correlation between album sales and Word Of Mouth. Researchers followed a total of 108 albums, tracking sales and blog posts on each.

Marketeering posting aside, if an independent album had over 40 posts written on it before release, then sales would typically increase three-fold. Arguably a predictable outcome? Jacqui Cheng discusses the finer points of the trial.
